How the hell did Charlie know that? I’d just told him the police claimed to have found an item belonging to me at the scene. Was he psychic, or …

Was he somehow involved in the murders? Had he set me up? A thousand questions swirled around in my brain. Maybe I needed to go back to school as far as Charlie was concerned.

Lucky came over to me and I petted him. He had been missing a lot of attention lately with all that had been going on. Charlie could be ornery when questioned about anything, but I think I had a right to more information.

“If he can’t confide everything he knows, I think you and I should remove ourselves from his company. What do you think, Lucky?”
