Ads may work on YouTube, but my experience at writing sites with ads is not a good one. Using HubPages as an example.

That site always made money through advertising, but when it was taken over the new owners decided to change the formatting and greatly increase advertising on articles/stories with the premise it would increase earnings for everyone.

Instead all it did was destroy the reading experience by littering articles with adds (sometimes up to ten of the same ad) and render them almost unreadable.

Also instead of writers making more money most now make only a small fraction of what they did before, because readers are turned off by the ads and leave before reading the whole article. Please Medium … don’t change to ad-based revenue.
