Brenda, it will be wonderful if you can get bone conducted hearing aids. I have seen people wearing ones that sit behind the ear, but a headband would be even better. It may be like getting glasses here. The eye test is covered for free, but you have to pay for the glasses. Health insurance usually covers part of the cost. We do have a few designated optometrists that issue Government subsidised free glasses for pensioners or unemployed however.
It is good news that you still have some hearing in that ear long after the doctors expected you to lose it though.
