The Backstory Behind the Poem

When we moved to our current house in town, I had a couple of confrontations with my front gate post. I was quite upset at the time and quite emotional.

After I had time to settle down and “get over” it, I actually saw the funny side of it … or at least tried to. I decided to reveal the story behind it through a poem. This Poem “Devil Gate Drive” is my response (It is also the name of a song by Suzie Quatro).

Laughing Through Tears — Writing Challenge

Recently Ray Day issued the ‘Laughing Through Tears writing challenge as follows:

I challenge you to create a humorous-emotional piece of writing that strikes the perfect balance between humor and emotion, taking your readers on a journey that will make them both laugh and feel deeply. Let your creativity run wild and see where it takes you!

As this situation was both emotional and funny (depending on whose perspective it was viewed from) I thought it was well suited to being my response to Ray’s challenge. Douglas Lim also tagged me.

I welcome anyone who follows me and hasn’t already been tagged in this challenge to participate if you so wish.
