Hello Nour. I honestly don’t think we should call anyone stupid or idiots (although some things I have seen online may contradict that.) I feel your friend was quite rude to call that young guy asking directions “stupid,” even if he could be using Google Maps or the like.
Having lived a lot of my life in small country towns I have learnt to be hospitable. I am often stopped by a stranger, and asked where a certain place or building is, or can I recommend the best place to eat in town etc. it is just a part of being helpful or friendly. It would not even cross my mind that they were being stupid for asking.
I may read something on Medium or elsewhere and think to myself, “How could they have written that and think it good enough for others to want to read?” Then I will see the article received positive comments and others obviously liked it. It was obviously just my tastes that it didn’t appeal to, so it wouldn’t be right for me to call them “stupid”:for writing such a thing.
People sometimes do stupid things, and you listed a number of good reasons they may have for doing so. We never know a person’s mental state, or if they are hard of hearing, have poor eyesight etc. but we should never call them stupid or an idiot. I am sure none of us would like to be labeled with those terms.
You article was insightful and offered much food for thought and comment. Cheers, my friend.
