I actually agree with every point you make. Words should not be changed, classic books should not be banned etc etc. We need to know what beliefs were held and what was acceptable at different points in history.

As a freelance writer I have been hired to write children’s books where characters had to be gender neutral, have names that could be male or female and use no pronouns such as he, him, her, she etc. Do you know how difficult this is?

I was also hired to write poems as a tribute to the lives of famous black American women for Black History Month, but even though some were the children of parents who were slaves etc. all reference to that had to be deleted. Even though it strengthened the story of their success.

I hate the phrase “cancel culture.”
