I Apologize for this Poem
An Apology Poem Challenge
How to Write an Apology Poem
Poems can do many different things. They can express love, tell funny stories, describe an interesting image, teach life lessons, be totally nonsense, or be very cryptic and pose a challenge to the reader to analyze.
The apology poem was invented (if that is the right word) by William Carlos Williams with his poem “This Is Just to Say.” It is a poem that uses direct address as a way to apologize for something that the speaker has done or said.
To read this poem check out Sheri Jacobs’ article ‘Calling All Poets and Teachers.’
There’s no wrong way to write an apology poem, as there are no set rules. When William Carlos Williams wrote “This Is Just to Say,” no one had ever created a poem quite like this before.
Sheri issued this challenge first, and then Wire Editor Newman tagged me to take part as well in his article, also called “Calling All Poets and Teachers.”
Now, I would like to pass this challenge onto a few others who I think may enjoy taking part. (I will list them at the end of the article.)
If you wish to give this a try you can borrow William Carlos William’s format, or you can create something totally new.
