I can relate to this, Harry. Being Australian, I naturally use British English extensively in everyday life. Writing online, I found many of my colleagues and readers to be American, so in some instances just found it easier to use American English in my articles.

I have since decided to use mainly British English and just say I am an Australian writer at the end. It is sometimes easy to inadvertently use both in an article.
