I Don’t Care!

~ Please Don’t Tell Me How Much Money You Made ~

It seems so many posts on here are intent on telling us how much money people made or didn’t make, e.g. “How I Made $2000 in Just One Month on Medium” … or … “This is a Joke. I Made Only $5 in October!” I’m sure you have noticed the same.

I really have no interest in how much you made on Medium this month, last month or in the whole year. Please just keep that to yourself. If you made thousands good for you, and just keep doing what you are doing, but it won’t make me feel any better, if anything I will feel inferior and that I am wasting my time here. I get that you may be proud of your achievements but, to me, it just sounds like you need attention and are big noting yourself.

Then if you say you only made like 50c, or a dollar or two, it sounds like you are holding a pity party and you want everyone to give you tips or tell you where you are going wrong. So, I don’t want to read that either. This reads as though you have a low opinion of yourself as a writer and need reassurance. But, believe me, it isn’t doing you any favours in attracting readers to your work.

By all means keep a personal tally and keep working to improve your views, readership, and earnings, but you don’t have to tell the rest of the world. Like an athlete, say swimmer or runner, who keep a…
