I don’t know the answer. I am certain at least half of my followers have non-premium membership and no articles but I am not sure if trimming is a good idea, or makes any difference to the algorithm.
One month where I received over 1000 new followers I wrote to Medium to advise them because it didn’t seem normal, but never received a reply.
