I find this article and poem both interesting historically and an enjoyable read.

… in honor of Samhain, I will explain some of the traditions mentioned that may not be self-evident. For starters, I’d like to touch on what a Dumb Supper is. No, it has nothing to do with feasting with idiots, lol. This is where we set an empty place at the table or on our altars in order to talk to our dead loved ones. We fill them in on all “the tea” that has happened the past year in the family.
