I have never worked at an airport, but don’t like them. I haven’t flown more than a dozen times in my life but I guarantee every time I do I get pulled aside for extra personal scanning. I just don’t like the whole procedure necessary to catch a plane.
I guess we get used to familiarity and convince ourselves that things aren’t so bad. I worked in the Railways as a clerk for 17 years in many different offices, and looking back I only enjoyed working in one or two of those. Most sucked. But I stuck with it until the Department was restructuring and making mass changes, and offered voluntary early retirement to anyone who didn’t want to relocate.
Largely it is the people you meet and work with to make a place bearable. I think deep down you love your postal job, and look at all the great writing material it has provided you with. Thanks for sharing this, Mel.
