I loved this writing advice, Tanille. You really say it like it is and don’t feed the reader bullshit. I much rather read a writing guide like this than something like “How to Please Everyone and Make $1000 per Week Without Even Trying.” Now, that could be a good click bait title … what do you think.
I agree that a writer can build up a reader’s expectations, only to have those come crashing down with a sudden change of style or genre. We have to always take that into consideration. As much as we like to say we write for ourselves, we do also want others to read and reread what we write, so we have to respect the reader and their tastes.

We can’t please everyone, but as long as the majority of our readers are “happy little Vegemites” (through that in for an Aussie) we should be satisfied.
