I think this is a very wise and common sense attitude. You are right that sometimes things don’t improve with time (chronic medical conditions and disabilities is a good example) and it is best to take one day at a time and find as much enjoyment as you can in each day. Concentrate on the things you can and like to do.

But there are other instances where you may be facing a problem now, but it is only temporary and will improve in the future. So, there are two sides to the statement.
