It isn’t always easy to gauge or choose the reading level of your audience, especially on Medium. For instance, it would be a waste of time targeting an article of the dangers of smoking to an audience of smokers who already know the facts and still choose to smoke. They simply won’t read it.

I guess I am in the top 6% of writers here then, now earning in excess of $100 a month from mainly poetry and short fiction - though it has been a slow steady climb. I could never restrict myself to one niche subject though. I find that would bore me, as well as my readers. I need to constantly excite or surprise myself with what I write, in order to appeal to my readers.
