It’s Happening Again
New stories not being paywalled
In November 2023, I wrote an article about finding that a large number of my stories had not been paywalled and had earned $0.00. I went through and added them all to the paywall, but some were a year old so I probably lost any earnings they may have attracted.
I read a couple of articles by others saying they had experienced the same, but many fortunately had not. One writer said he was shocked to find over 100 articles that were not paywalled since he had joined Medium.
Well, after that, things seemed to improve, and all my new stories were automatically paywalled by default (I made sure to double check each one before I hit “publish.”)
Until now! On checking my most recent stories, I found that two out of the last three had earned nothing, and on investigating further I found that they weren’t paywalled. The funny thing is, I was sure it said they were when I published them. Both these articles were in different publications as well, so the problem wasn’t with one of them.
It could possibly be a glitch, but if so, why aren’t more people reporting this happening to their stories? I wonder if it is perhaps country specific? I would be interested in hearing from anyone else if they have recently experienced the same.
