Mike, you should feel good about the story. I read it and didn’t feel a distinct leaning to any of those that your other readers pointed out.

Writing mostly poetry myself, I am used to readers having different interpretations of my writing. I guess that takes getting used to, but any feedback is better than none as it shows the reader was engaged with the story, not just giving it a quick flick through. I think you succeeded.
