Drabble #204 July 22/24 “friendship” — I chose not to use the suggested 1st sentence, but to make this a drabble and a half (150 words) instead.

“Yes, good point,” replied Charlie. “If this first book does well, maybe I will have to write a sequel or a series of books.”

“Yes, I am sure it will, and maybe you should,” I replied.

“I know I may not have thanked you before, Jack, but I appreciate all the work you did uploading the manuscript for me. Oh, and I have always valued your friendship.”

Was I hearing things, or did Charlie actually say what I thought he did? It was almost like what you say to a loved one when they are going away and you may not see them again, or they are dying. Maybe I was paranoid.

“Yeah, me too. Maybe we should start heading back down.” I would feel more comfortable when I was back at the base of the mountain. “Besides, I miss Lucky. I don’t like leaving him alone for too long.”
