An Experiment

Here are two more poems resulting from an experiment to see if I could successfully combine random and seemingly unconnected topics into one poem. A friends provided the subjects for the first, and my wife for the second:

  1. precious metals, man’s best friend, poets
  2. spoon, helicopter, toast

The following poems are what I came up with.

Precious Metals, Man’s Best Friend, and Poets

Gold and silver, platinum,
A dog is man’s best friend.
A poet’s like an alchemist
Creating gold from lead.

Precious metals signify success,
Their value we are taught.
Athletes seek gold, silver, bronze
In all Olympic sports.

Dogs provide companionship,
And though some may need restraint,
They are faithful to the very end,
And love without complaint.

Poets are a special breed,
Addicted to the word.
They try to make their work unique
And stand out from the herd.
