Charlie must have sensed my unease and the questioning look on my face.
“What’s up, Jack?” He asked, but not waiting for my answer, continued, “Murder and Retribution! The name of my planned book sequel.”

“Oh, of course. I knew that,” I lied, starting to feel more relaxed … just as my phone rang. It was the police saying they had been trying to contact me and needed me to call in to the local station to answer further questions relating to Chef Ramsay’s death.

“Don’t stress,” said Charlie. “Just go in there and say what I told you to. You will be fine. If they had any reason to charge you with the murder, they would not have phoned; they would have sent a car out to take you in.”

“I guess you have a point,” I said, trying to convince myself to act more positive. I raised my beer again, “Okay, let’s make another toast to getting this homicide matter over and done with. It has been dragging on far too long.”

Charlie raised his beer also, and with a wry smile, tapped it against mine. “To the police, and their tireless pursuit for quick administration of justice!”
