Random word drabble 125: “definition”

The ophthalmologist advised Charlie that the surgery went well, and he should be able to see better in a few days.

When his appointment was made, he had to look up the definition of ophthalmologist, and how it differed from optometrist, and optician. Those weren’t even real doctors! And why the hell did the word need so many “h’s?”

He had to remain at the surgery for a couple of hours, but they wouldn’t allow him to drive home alone, saying it was unsafe. Damn it! He’d have to book a motel, then call Jack, just to check on Lucky.

What is a Drabble?

Most flash fiction is identified as stories under 1000 words. Many short-form publications require you to stay under 150 words. A drabble is a short fiction story of exactly 100 words.

I find drabbles to be an excellent exercise in keeping your writing tight because it forces you to discard any unnecessary words.

Drabbles are normally a stand-alone story with a beginning, middle and end, all contained within 100 words. However, those who have been following me know that I have strayed…
