Sidestepping a Kiss

I saw her move to kiss me
But I swiftly turned aside.
Her lips were puckered as she lunged,
But her futile attempt went wide.

She must find me attractive,
But I’m not the kissing kind.
Wet squishy lips don’t excite me,
A simple hug is fine.

I pretended not to notice,
Though her embarrassment was real.
I hoped she’d somehow get the hint
No romance did I feel.

I found Claire quite attractive,
Of that don’t get me wrong.
Her long blonde hair and bright blue eyes
Could inspire a hit love song.

But, I’m a little shy I guess,
These lips have not been touched.
Except by my Great Aunt Flo,
And believe me that’s too much.

Then when I wasn’t looking
And was otherwise engaged,
I felt her warm lips touch my cheek.
I jumped back quite enraged.

“Claire!” I cried, “How dare you!”
I stared in mild surprise,
But she just gave a great big smile…
