Sheri Jacobs has issued another challenge based on the poetry of the late William Carlos Williams. Some may remember the recent “apology poem” challenge.

Williams wrote the following profound yet simple poem about a wheelbarrow, something basic but essential for life in 1923:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens

Sheri’s Challenge

So, what is the quintessential wheelbarrow our modern-day lives depend upon? The answers are infinite and open, as always, to our unique perceptions.

Let’s have some fun! I challenge you to create a poem about what your red wheelbarrow is.

The four poems below are my response.
