Scary Real-life Bedtime Stories
My friend Pamela Oglesby recently wrote an article “Snake and Spider Scary Thoughts,” in response to a challenge “Your Scariest Spider, Snake, and Insect Story Challenge” by Keeley Schroder.
Pamela encouraged me to write about my experiences.
Having lived a great deal of my life on properties in rural areas I have had countless encounters with creepy crawly critters like spiders, snakes, and various insects.
It is hard to choose just one instance to discuss as being the scariest, so I will list a few.
- As a child I remember one time when my mother saw a red-belly black snake coming in through the back door. My dad was at work, so she reacted quickly by slamming the door on the snake.
This didn’t kill the snake but made it very angry and it thrashed around stuck in the door … head inside the house, tail out.
She phoned my dad, who couldn’t come home, but he called a neighbour to come deal with the situation.
- Once, we received a phone call from the school saying our daughter had been bitten by a spider at school, and if we could come get her and take her to the doctor.
