Thank you for writing this, Misbah. This is exactly how I feel. I am glad you had the fortitude to question your teachers about the interpretations. All poetry teachers must be instructed on quoting and having their classes interpret the same poems. I remember having to to do the same with Ozymandius.

I love poetry, both reading it and writing it, always have. But, being expected to interpret it in a certain way irked me. Did each of the original poets write instructions of how their poems were to be interpreted, or provide their own interpretation? I doubt it.

This is one reason that I try to make the message in most of my poems so clear, that they don’t need to be interpretted. Now and then I write a cryptic one, just for fun to see what explanation the readers come up with. Blessings to you.
