Linda Lum recently shared a piece of creative writing that she had previously written in response to a picture and word challenge on another site. She kindly tagged me to also participate here on Medium.

The funny thing is that I had also been part of the original challenge Linda mentioned. So, I guess it is only fair that I share the poem I wrote for that challenge many years ago. My poem is also called ‘The Door to Nowhere.’

The challenge stated:

Your prompt is a visual one. The picture above is the Door to Nowhere. Also, as part of your prompt, you have to begin your challenge with the following sentence:

Was it really only yesterday?

*The photo above is not the original one provided (I don’t have permission to use that here) but it is very similar.

The Door to Nowhere

Was it really only yesterday -
That you looked at me with tear filled eyes,
And said your love had died?

Was it really only yesterday -
That you packed all your belongings,
Ignoring my futile protests?
