Random word 156: “waylay”

The destruction of his cabin could have waylaid the completion of Charlie’s book ‘The Meaning of Death’, but on the contrary — thanks to my already having saved it digitally he was now determined to get it published.

I found access to the file on my phone and handed it to Charlie, so he could do what was needed.

“Thanks, Jack. Excuse me, while I make a phone call first,” he said as he walked outside to talk privately.

He returned in a few minutes, with a look of satisfaction, and sat down making what he said was the final edit.

Most of my previous drabbles have been published at Fiction Shorts but as I have fallen so far behind, I am publishing most now under my own profile. I am still using the daily random words kindly provided by Nancy Oglesby. I may or may not utilize the twist or genre depending on if it fits the story.
