The Road to Oblivion**

In days of darkness long ago,
Time swallowed memories whole,
A whispered message left behind,
That contained part of my soul.

A message etched in fading ink,
Penned by hands long turned to dust,
A plea to be revealed, perhaps,
Or betrayal of love’s trust.

I set my feet upon a road,
It looks lonely and disused.
Well-travelled it once must have been,
By the sad, lost, and confused.

The long road stretches on for miles,
Endlessly it winds and bends,
Each step erasing memories,
It’s a highway with no end.

With heavy legs I trudge along,
My goal I’ve long forgotten.
As dark clouds gather overhead,
I sense that something’s rotten.
