Though I don’t know the writer you are referring to I have read some really poorly written pieces that had a huge number of claps and comments. On checking the writers other pieces, the stats were similar even though their articles were very generic, short, and provided no information most people didn’t already know. It seemed a lot of their readers were fairly new to Medium. Maybe the click bait titles attracted them.
