To Publish or Not to Publish?

Your advice is welcome

I just finished writing a poem inspired by a quote (which I like to call “Quoetry”) and was happy with the finished poem. But before I hit the “publish” button I had second thoughts.

The poem touches on a couple of controversial subjects in society today that often result in divided opinions. The last thing I want is to offend anyone, especially my friends at Medium, and even though I have my own views on the matter and consider it should be my right to express them, I would choose not to publish rather than cause any friction.

It is possible that I am overthinking this, and that this poem will be accepted on its merits, and readers realise that it just expresses my personal opinion, whether that may be right or wrong.

It is based on the statement ‘The Majority is Never Right’ by Henrik Ibsen, the famous but sometimes controversial Norwegian playwrite.

I don’t shy away from highlighting injustice, human and animal rights, or abuse issues in my writing, but I do try to be sensitive to other people’s situations and beliefs.

My question to you, my colleagues is, would you go ahead and publish a piece if you weren’t sure how it would be accepted, and risk offending a few readers?
