Writing Challenge/Contest

Kimberly J Fitzgerald issued the following challenge based on a quote by Isaac Newton -

We build too many walls and not enough bridges.

Writing prompt: Do you have walls up, and why? Where would it lead to if you were going to build a bridge in your life right now?

“We have to Build Bridges of Peace Instead of building Walls of Wars.”

— Widad Akrawi

Walls and Bridges~ A Sonnet

Some walls are built to keep us safe and sound
from dangers that may lurk beyond our sight.
Some walls are built to mark our scared ground,
from those who do not share our faith or plight.

But walls can also keep us trapped inside,
a prison of our own making and fear.
Walls can also make us so divided,
from those who have a different voice or ear.

That’s why we need more bridges in our lives,
to span the gaps that walls create between,
to cross the rivers that may be too wide,
to reach the lands that we have never seen.
