I felt the earth return beneath me
as the dog stood over,
drenched and panting.
The four-legged creature,
Man’s loyal companion
who I scorned,
now wagging his tail,
rejoicing it saved this frail,
naughty kid
who couldn’t swim,
who almost drowned.

What a heartwarming story you have presented in this poem, Jibril. Children can be cruel, but dogs show unconditional love (even if it is a metaphor). The ending was wonderful.
