This was a writing challenge I took part in a while back:

• Create an article or story answering this two-part question that asks you to time travel in your mind, and project forward on behalf of another:

The following piece of fiction is my response. I apologize for the length. This is probably the longest “short” story I have ever written. Hopefully it is interesting enough to hold your attention to the end.

Leonardo pushed open the door and took a tentative step out of his time machine.
