Yes, Brenda, I saw this coming. I have read a few articles recently about the surprising number of different meats and other products that can be created in labs. I can understand how this could be very helpful in the future to feed booming populations, especially if climate change affects the validity of farming in some places. However, we do need to protect and support the livelihood of existing farmers.
Here in Australia there is big debate over the move to only free range or barn eggs, and no more cage egg production. Many egg farmer can not afford to change over, and it will result in skyrocketing egg prices. What if they start producing test tube eggs?
I once wrote this poem:
I bred a boneless chicken
That laid pre-scrambled eggs.
It just sat around and ate and laid
Because it couldn’t use its legs.
